Jajah atterra sull'iPod Touch

Il fornitore VoIP californiano Jajah sbarca sull'iPod Touch, rilasciando la versione 2.0 per iPhone e iPod Touch.

Si tratta di un applicativo web-based che mostra una tastiera virtuale, attraverso cui effettuare chiamate VoIP con Jajah.

Chi ha un iPhone, digita il numero da chiamare sul display o pesca il nome dalla rubrica, chi ha un Touch, invece, deve indicare un numero telefonico, fisso o mobile, su cui ricevere la chiamata.

fringME!: VoIP con Web e GPS

E' stato anticipato nei giorni scorsi ed ora è disponibile per tutti: si tratta di un simpatico bottoncino chiamato fringME!, che è possibile inserire sul proprio sito Web o blog.

Il widget gratuito di Fring permette ai visitatori del sito/blog di vedere lo status online e di chattare con il "tenutario" quando è lontano dal computer (anche senza essere utente fring).

Ma la caratteristica più interessante è senz'altro la possibilità di vedere in tempo reale via Google Maps dove si trova il tenutario. Quest'ultima funzionalità deve essere associata ovviamente ad un cellulare con GPS integrato (per altro, deve comunque essere un Symbian OS 9.1/9.2).

Cheapnet acquisisce Vira

Finisce con un'acquisizione da parte di Cheapnet (marchio di CWENET srl) l'avventura di Vira Intratec, il provider VoIP messo in gravi difficoltà da un contenzioso economico con Telecom Italia.

In un comunicato, i dettagli sull'acquisizione:
Si è conclusa oggi l'operazione per il subentro di Cheapnet, il dinamico provider toscano che eroga servizi ad oltre 220mila utenti, nella gestione della divisione Voip VIRA di Intratec. L'operazione, di cui si parlava già da tempo, ha trovato una conclusione positiva grazie all'impegno delle due società ed alla determinazione della direzione di Cheapnet che ha voluto fortemente questa acquisizione. “La società crede molto nelle potenzialità e nel futuro sviluppo della tecnologia VoIP – dichiara Marco Bondielli, Presidente di Cheapnet - e non escludo che in un prossimo futuro verranno effettuate altre acquisizioni capaci di rafforzare ulteriormente la nostra azienda.”

Skype senza pace: c'è un worm per gli utenti Windows

Non è un compleanno facile, quello di Skype: dopo il black-out globale dei giorni scorsi (su cui si sa ancora poco, nonostante i tentativi dell'azienda di chiarire), è ora la volta di un worm che colpisce gli utenti Skype con MS Windows.

A spiegarlo il blog ufficiale:

The new week has started with a bang. And not the kind of bang we like.
Skype has learned that a computer virus called “w32/Ramex.A” is affecting users of Skype for Windows. Users whose computers are infected with this virus will send a chat message to other Skype users asking them to click on a web link that can infect the computer of the person who receives the message.
Please note that Skype users ONLY become infected after they have downloaded the link and run the malicious software. The chat message, of which there are several versions, is cleverly written and may appear to be a legitimate chat message, which may fool some users into clicking on the link.

Un worm che infetta il Pc e ionizia a mandare ad altri utenti Skype via chat un messaggio contenente un link. Link che a sua volta infetta il Pc del destinatario, se quest'ultimo 'fa girare' il software. Nessun problema per chi usa antivirus aggiornati di F-Secure, Kaspersky Lab e Symantec. A proposito, il worm è chiamato W32/Skipi.A. da F-Secure e W32.Pykspa.D da Simantec.

Per chi vuole rimuovere manualmente il worm:

Restart the PC in safe mode
Run regedit
Go to HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/runonce find entry with mshtmldat32.exe. Delete this entry.
Go to Windows\System32 directory and delete following files: wndrivs32.exe, mshtmldat32.exe, winlgcvers.exe, sdrivew32.exe
Go to windows/system32/drivers/etc
Find file hosts
Open it with notepad, ctrl+a and delete all entries (this will resume your antivirus updates), save, close.
Restart the PC.

Blackout Skype, la finta trasparenza

Diciamocelo: il modo in cui è stato affrontato il maxi-blackout che ha colpito Skype (ora parzialmente risolto) di trasparente ha solo la parvenza. Già, perchè sebbene il blog di Skype sia stato costantemente aggiornato, la realtà è che di informazioni ne sono state date ben poche. Di quelle vere, intendo.

Sulla pagina Skype campeggia da ieri questo avviso:

L'intervista di Kurt Sauer, CSO di Skype, al New York Times non aggiunge molto: problemi causati da "a unique set of events" e da una "deficiency in an algorithm within Skype networking software".

Ok, non è stata la manutenzione né il sistema di pagamento via Web né un attacco: allora, cosa è stato? Chi è in grado di dire cosa non è stato, dovrebbe esserte in grado di dire anche cosa è stato. Non con 5 giorni di ritardo, però...
