Ericsson: HSPA a 42 Mbps

Ericsson 'risponde' a NTT DoCoMo: secondo le indiscrezioni, mostrerà al CTIA Wireless prossima settimana la prima soluzione end-to-end HSPA (il super-UMTS) a 42 Mbps.
Velcità ottenuta grazie alla modulazione 64QAM e tecnologia MIMO 2x2 (Multiple Input Multiple Output).

Speeds of up to 42 Mbps represent the next phase in HSPA Evolution. These speeds are achieved by combining new higher order modulation technology (64QAM), together with 2x2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna technology. The first step of the HSPA evolution will be introduced during 2008.

The improved speed will assist operators in leveraging existing network infrastructure to meet growing consumer appetite for advanced multimedia services. The demonstration will be made using a handheld form-factor device based on Ericsson Mobile Platforms access technology.

Ericsson's WCDMA/HSPA Radio Access Network solutions offer an evolutionary path for HSPA Evolution. For example, the RBS 3000 family of Ericsson base stations has support for both HSPA Evolution and LTE. Ericsson's recently launched next-generation radio base station family, the RBS 6000 series, offers a enhanced multi-standard solution that supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA Evolution and LTE, all in a single package.

Si tratta, ovviamente, di velocità teoriche :-)

Antenne o opere d'arte?

Le antenne per la telefonia mobile non sono propriamente belle da vedere. Pali di acciaio piantati nel terreno o sui tetti, groviglio di tubi che spesso diventano elemento di disturbo per il paesaggio circostante.

C'è chi negli anni si è specializzato nel nasconderle (camuffandole da albero, caminetto, ...) ritagliandosi uno spazio significativo sul mercato.

Ora sono direttamente i produttori a rendere più belli i pali per le antenne: Ericsson si è affidata all'architetto scandinavo Thomas Sandell per realizzare nuove infrastrutture, belle da vedere e che possono diventare elementi d'arte. Rispetto all'acciaio, le nuove infrastrutture in cemento sono più ecologiche e permettono una maggiore libertà di design. A quando sul mercato?
